It's not Fair - Artwork Competition

 

2024 Artwork Competition - Deadline Extended to 31st May 2024

We are currently writing the 2024 version of the It’s Not Fair science book and we would like to announce an exciting competition for the children in your schools. This would be an ideal activity for your school science week, science club, art club, or an art and design classroom project.

This competition is open to all primary school aged children. 

The task is for the children to create a piece of art that epitomise one of the five enquiry types:

  • Observation Over Time

  • Identification and Classification

  • Pattern Seeking

  • Comparative and Fair Testing

  • Research

Entries will be selected based on quality of artistic composition, overall design based on the theme, originality and clarity of depiction of an enquiry type.

To enter please either: Post the entries to: FAO Karen Dyer, ASE, College Lane, Hatfield AL10 9AA OR scan the image and email to: info@millgatehouse.co.uk (with the subject line It's Not Fair - Artwork Competition)

Competition rules and information:

  1. The artwork could be a drawing, print, collage, painting, textile, digital image or artwork created using any other art medium.

  2. The artwork can be size A5, A4 or A3.

  3. The artwork orientation MUST be landscape and not portrait.

  4. The artwork should capture a single enquiry type. 

  5. The artwork should be two-dimensional and flat (no three-dimensional images will be accepted) so that it can be reproduced easily in the book.

  6. Children can submit an entry for each of the five enquiry types to their school if they wish.

  7. Each school can submit two entries per enquiry type. Ten entries in total.

  8. Please label the back of the work with:
    1. the child’s first name only
    2. child’s age
    3. teacher’s full name 
    4. teacher’s email address 
    5. school name

  2. Or scan the image and email to: info@millgatehouse.co.uk (with the subject line It's Not Fair - Artwork Competition)

  3. If you are scanning and emailing please retain the original artwork as, if the artwork wins the competition, we will require the original to be posted to us ready to print.

  4. We regret we will not be able to return posted images.

  5. Submission of entries to the competition gives permission for ASE and Millgate House to use the artwork in future publications, social media, presentations and online. MHE retains editorial control over the work. By entering the competition, you accept that ASE and Millgate have the right to make editorial and commercial decisions about the work; you grant ASE and Millgate the exclusive right to produce, publish, promote, distribute and license the work or portions of the works in any format.

  6. Deadline for entries is May 31st 2024.

  7. There will be five winning entries - one for each enquiry type.

  8. Winning entries will be included in the new edition of It’s Not Fair.

  9. The winning entries will be announced in September 2024.

  10. The teacher of the child whose artwork is selected for each enquiry type will receive a copy of It’s Not Fair 2024.

  11. Each winning child will receive an age-appropriate science book.
